The united Kingdom, and especially the area of London is filled with amazing and breathtaking museums of history, nature, arts and so on. Royal Museums Greenwich is a group of four places that are must see attractions in London that consist of the Cutty Sark sailing ship, the Queen’s House, the Royal Observatory and the National Maritime Museum.

They do not belong to the free museums of London, but are worthy of a visit nonetheless. As their name shows, all four are located in Greenwich – in its central part – and very close to each other, so in fact, they can be the perfect destinations for a day-tour during a visit to London.

The Cutty Sark ship museum

Cutty Sark is a sailing ship built in 1869 destined to serve in the tea trade. She is now exhibited and open for visitors in the center of Greenwich every day from 10 AM to 5 PM. It is really like time travel to walk on the decks of the ship and below; the perfectly restored Cutty Sark is an amazing experience.

The Queen’s House

Originally the home of Henrietta Maria, the wife of King Charles I, the 17th century building brought a new chapter to the English architecture. Now it gives home to a fine art collections and the elegant mansion can also be hired for weddings and other events. Some of the most celebrated features of the Queen’s House are the painted ceiling in the Queen’s old bedchamber, the marvelous Great Hall and the famous Tulip staircase.

The Royal Observatory

The famous Royal Observatory is where the Greenwich Mean Time and the world’s Prime Meridian are located. London’s only Planetarium as well as the largest refracting telescope in the country are also within the walls of the Observatory. The Astronomy Centre is free for visitors, but the rest of the sights have a small admission fee: 7 Pounds for adults and 2.5 Pound for children between 6 and 15 year.

National Maritime Museum

Greenwich gives home to the largest maritime museum in the world. The museum is amazing for families as it has lots of sights and activities for the kids and plenty of history to show to the adults. You can hear the stories of real life sailors and pirates and admire original navy uniforms from 150 years ago!

If you, by any chance happen to have an extra day in London, a wonderful destination for 2014 one must add, do not miss visiting the Royal Museums Greenwich!
